Message They absolutely do but as I mentioned, environmental conditions play a roll. The longer things like this are in environments that cause this type of problem the shorter it's life will be. So unless you keep your Z locked in an air tight environmentally controlled room it will eventually have these problems.

Other external factors can contribute to the corroding process too. The main one being chemicals used in the manufacturing process. A case in point being Mitsubishi boards I had worked on once which required servicing per a service bulletin from Mitsubishi. The boards had some wires soldered between components which were being held down to the board with an adhesive. After a year or so it was found that the adhesive broke down and formed an acid which literally ate through the circuits and the board itself. On any unit which was returned for repair we had to insure that all trace of the adhesive was removed even if it looked ok.
